Tom couldn’t help but to smile back at Marisol as she snapped at the guys, but it quickly faded off of his face as there were now three angry, ripped guys surrounding them.
“The fuck are these two? Batman and Robin?” One of them chuckled, and the other two laughed in response.
Tom noticed Joey falter slightly. “Dude, should we just bail?” Tom muttered, but Joey stood his ground.
“Why don’t you come with us, blondie? We used to know eachother so well back when you and Matt were hanging with the boys.” One of the guys smirked to Noelle. She didn’t get the chance to respond as Joey’s fist connected with the guy’s face.
Tom’s mouth dropped open, and, caught up in the moment, he kicked one of the other’s in the crotch and frantically turned around, grabbing Marisol’s hand. “I think we should go!”
Noelle watched and quickly got up from her seat, standing next to Joey, lightly holding onto his shirt, gripping at a bit tighter as the guys mentioned Matt. She didn’t even have it in her to think up an insult. When Tom mentioned just leaving, Noelle nodded at him, though next thing she knew Joey had punched one of them right in the face, and Noelle let out a small gasp, watching the scene before her.
“Yeah.. just one thing!” She murmured, glancing at Tom, before walking over to the guy that was now lying on the floor and kicking him in his gut. “Stay away from Matt!” She spat, before quickly moving back over to Joey. “You okay..?” She murmured softly, as she lightly took his hand, moving away from the scene.
Carefully balancing four plastic beer cups, Tom made his way over to the table, passing each of them a drink. He took a large sip from his, before frowning slightly. “What are you all looking at?” Slowly, Tom turned his head just as one of the guys approached them. He had an unruly look to him, day-old stubble and a tattoo prominently displayed on his bare shoulder.
“You’re Trey’s bitch, aren’t you?” The guy breathed, his breath laced with the stench of alcohol and cigarette smoke. Tom jumped up immediately. “Leave her alone.” he said firmly, eyeing the guy with contempt.
Noelle followed Joey and Marisol’s gaze and quickly felt herself freeze a little. “I.. I know them.” She murmured softly, her breath getting caught in her throat, as she quickly tore her gaze away from the group of guys, all her memories about Trey flooding back into her mind, as she looked at the cup of beer, she didn’t even touch it, her stare firmly on the table, as she tried to calm herself down some.
When she heard the words coming from the guy’s mouth, she whipped her head around shooting them a cold glare. “I am nobody’s bitch!” She snapped, her eyes moving over to Tom, shooting him a small grateful glance.
Even Joey couldn’t put Tom in a bad mood. He led the teenagers to the front of the line, an added perk of winning the tickets from a radio competition, and soon they were inside the gates. Crowds of people were flocked around the main stage, Tom grinned. He was in his element. “Oi! Should we get some drinks first, then come back for when they go on stage?” he called above the general screaming to his friends.
Seeing the large group of people, Noelle’s hand automatically reached for Joey’s as she stepped a bit closer to him, following Tom around, while attempting not to bump into anybody. “Sure!” Noelle shouted back at Tom.
Joey looked down as he saw Noelle’s arms around him, and couldn’t resist smiling again. “Night.” he murmured, kissing her forehead and standing locked in her arms for a few moments, unable to make himself pull away. He pressed his lips together, and turned to pull the covers off of the bed.
Noelle quickly crawled into her bed who happened to be next to his, and glanced over at him. “Sweet dreams.” She whispered, before letting her eyes close, pulling the covers closer around her.
“Yeah, probably.” Joey agreed. He instinctively leaned in for a good night kiss, but saved himself just in time by standing up and stretching his arms upwards toward the ceiling. Old habits never died. He yawned, and pointed to the empty bed. “So, um. That one’s mine?”
When Joey leaned into her, she reacted almost out of instinct, clearing her throat as he pulled back. It was almost like she was drawn to him like a magnet. It definitely wasn’t good. Glancing over at Emmy’s bed, she nodded with a somewhat sad smile, as she got up from the ground, watching him as he stretched out, quickly taking the opportunity to move her arms around him again. “Goodnight.” She whispered in his ear, kissing his cheek, before pulling back, somewhat reluctantly.
Joey paused momentarily, seeing her cut off the word he was so sure she’d been about to say. He decided to brush it off, smiling brightly. “Then let’s make it last a few days! Screw school. We can find a motel or something after the festival.” he grinned excitedly. Joey knew he was being ridiculous, he was just trying to pump everyone up, really. “Killyjoy.” he muttered.
As Tom and Noelle talked directions, Joey turned to face Marisol. “What’s the deal with you and angsty boy? I thought you guys were like, dating or whatever?”
“I like his idea” Marisol smiled, turning to Noelle who was still concentrating on the Freeway before her.
Marisol gave Joey a stern look, Tom was close enough to hear the two talking. “Aren’t you lovely” She smirked slightly shaking her head, before awkwardly pushing her fringe away from her eyes. ”Yeah.. uh… I’ll explain later ” She replied quietly.
“I don’t.” Tom muttered under his breath, too quiet for anyone sitting in the backseat to hear. “Well, we could do something like that. One weekend, maybe. When we don’t have classes tomorrow.” he said simply, staring straight ahead.
“Yeah, this is the exit here. Only ten minutes or so down the main road ‘til we get to the fairground.” Tom said excitedly, already pumping himself for the live music atmosphere. “As long as you’re okay, though.” he added. Tom’s ears perked up as he heard Joey mention him and Marisol. What an ass. Atleast she didn’t say anything. Not that she was the one who needed to do any explaining anyway.
”I think of the two of you have to share a motel room, I will end up driving back with a corpse.” Noelle chuckled, glancing between Joey and Tom a moment, though she had to admit, she rather liked the idea of just being away for the weekend and have some fun with her friends.
“Alright..” She smiled at Tom, before getting off the freeway and driving onto the fairground, finding her way to the parking spots and parking her car neatly. “Voila. Everyone ready?” Noelle grinned brightly.
